July Surprise
For the second time in a couple of days, I’ve posted something in a note, that I havr looked back on and actually don’t mind, so I’m going to use it as one I publish here.
Michelle Blaine added me to a chain to create something along a theme of ‘Christmas in July’, so I thank her for the line which started this one, and also Roger Browne, whom I believed introduced the theme:
One melted chocolate button,
a trail of crumbs that led
to the very front of the fireplace,
I was left scratching my head.
Sun blazed through the windows,
though there appeared to be footprints in snow,
who had been in my house on this July day,
and what’s more, where did they go?
I looked a little further,
amongst the ashes and the coal
then with a BANG and a white flash,
I was transported to the North Pole
The sun shone just as brightly here
though there was much more music and songs,
I could hear little chattering voices,
and whistles and bells and gongs.
What looked like elves dashed past me
and a shadow then appeared,
I looked and saw the red and white,
the jolly face and the white beard.
In shock I managed to ask him,
“how can this be real?”
He responded with a “Ho Ho Ho”
with gusto and such zeal.
“I know it’s been a hard year,
with much to make you cry,
so to cheer you up, what is better than
having Christmas in July?”
My writing is free, though writing does take time, especially when balancing work and family life. If you wish to support my writing, I have a subscription option or if that’s not for you, there is also my ‘Buy Me A Tea’ feature, above, which all help to keep the words flowing.

I love the last stanza! <3
What a delightful little journey—playful, magical, and unexpectedly tender. “What is better than having Christmas in July?” -a lovely reminder that joy does not always have to wait for the proper season.
